The latest numbers from McCarran International Airport are out, showing a solid 1.3% gain in November compared to the same month a year ago. Almost 4 million passengers came through the airport last month, and traffic for the year to date is up 2.2% as we head into December.
International passenger volume looked relatively strong in November compared to the essentially flat trend throughout the year. Meanwhile, domestic traffic saw a small 1.2% bump, less than the 2.3% increase for 2017 to date.
In terms of the top five airlines, Southwest had another bad month, taking a 2.9% slide and putting traffic for the year down almost 1% from the same point in 2016. American posted a small decline in November but is performing the worst of the year with a 3.4% drop in volume. Delta took November’s biggest hit with a 3.9% decline, but is still up a healthy 2.3% for the year. United had a good month and a solid year to date, but doesn’t hold a candle to Spirit, which is continuing to gain on the competition. They’re up 12.3% from last November and 6.9% for the year to date.
