Spirit Leapfrogs United in June McCarran Traffic

New statistics from McCarran International Airport point to another month of healthy gains in passenger volumes. June saw more than 4.3 million arriving and departing passengers, a 2.8% gain from the same month in 2017. At the halfway point for 2018, traffic is up 3.1% compared to 2017.

International visitation continues to show strong improvements following a weaker 2017, up 5.2% in June and for the year to date. Domestic traffic is up 2.4% for the month.

The big news for the top five domestic carriers is that Spirit‘s rapid growth has finally rearranged the pecking order. The low-fare carrier saw 25.4% more passengers than it did last June. Spirit had about 20,000 more passengers than United, knocking it to 5th place despite a strong 12.7% gain. Southwest continues to stay relatively flat while American continues to see slight declines. Watch out American, Spirit is coming for you!
